International Brownie Camera Days

In chatting with someone on Instagram last week, I learned about International Brownie Camera Days – which was exciting because 1. I love my Brownie and 2. I didn’t know this existed. I was thrilled to have an excuse to get out my little Hawkeye and re-spool some film.

Now, I don’t know much about the Brownie Camera Days, but from what I can tell, it includes the month of February. Should you decide to participate, the website says you have until March 14th to submit your photos. I won’t be submitting; I just joined in for my own sake and for the sake of a camera that doesn’t get a lot of use. I was going to use Arista film, but I discovered I only have one roll of it, and frankly I don’t like processing just one roll at a time, so I chose FP4 instead – which, again, is something I rarely use.

Saturday was a beautiful day: warm, sunny, perfect! So I went to one of my favorite places and had a lovely time exposing both rolls of film. This guy at Berry Springs Park and Preserve even got some nose scritches.

The outing gave me an opportunity to indulge my obsession with bare trees, tree shadows, and water. I also played around with getting a little more abstract, something that’s been in my mind after going through a stack of my Dad’s photos (and my Dad gave me the Brownie, of course).

I even managed to catch a turtle sunning itself on a log. Can you see him?

I also made a couple of double exposures, which is relatively easy to do with the Brownie

Berry Springs has barns and old buildings, too – which are other things I love photographing. Some places just tick all the boxes and never get old!

This is almost all the photos; I’ll share the rest on my instagram. Thank you for looking! And I hope, if you own a Brownie camera, that you’ll take it out for a spin this month. I suspect mine will get another outing soon!

What amazing composition and balance! And wow – consistent impressive exposure in every frame on the roll – and out of a Brownie too! Your Jasek skills are showing… These are a true joy to view. Are you scanning direct from film?

Thank you so much Joel! Yes, I scanned these from the film negatives. I’m already looking forward to using the Brownie again soon!
