A Year of Cuteness and Mayhem

One year ago today these little rascals were born, to the outdoor cat of a family who lives not far away from us. They were born, miraculously enough, on the exact same day that our beloved old cat crossed the rainbow bridge (after a relatively short but heartbreakingly swift decline – it was a terrible day, as every pet owner knows all too well).

Our old kitty, Little (aka Diddles, aka LeeLee, aka She, and a zillion other nicknames)

In July of last year, after a lot of summer travel, we decided it was time to get some new friends to populate the house with dander and dandiness. It felt like a long time, but really it only took us a couple of days of Craigslist searching to find exactly what we were looking for: a brother/sister pair including an orange tabby.

This has been my first experience with kittens, and it’s been a blast! They have enhanced our lives so much, and we love them. So today I’m celebrating them with a bunch of photographs made over the past bunch of months since they came to live at (and, frankly, run) our house. Starting at the beginning but not necessarily in chronological order.

One of the two is easier to photograph than the other! Moby, our orange boi, tends to be still for the camera and is easier to focus on. Beans, with her dark fur and tortie-tude, is more of a challenge.

These photos were all made with a variety of cameras, some with flash (obviously). It’s a challenge to catch busy little babies.

Thank you for taking a moment to celebrate our cats! For all of you out there with lots of fur on your clothes and toes that get pounced on in the night: hug your kitty for me!
