Every time I go to the beach, I take a slew of cameras with me and have a good time making photographs. Then, later, at home, I realize how challenging it is to make properly exposed photographs at the beach. I don’t know if it’s the blinding sun on the sand and water, the humidity, the heat, or a slurry of all three, but my photographs almost without exception look like they have been through the wringer.
So, imagine my delight when I recently slogged through the process of developing some of my backlog of color film and discovered this roll of Portra 160 that I used with my Diana F. To my eyes, these aren’t terrible! They aren’t so overexposed and stressed out that they look like they are groaning from the exertion. I think this is the best film I’ve pulled out of my Diana. Sure, they’re a bit wonky in that Lomo / Diana way, but for once I am so pleased to have a roll of pictures from the beach that I am happy with. Here they are! Thanks for looking.
