The Daily Epic, Day 1 | Early Morning

The Daily Epic, Day 1 | Early Morning

IMG_7782.JPG

When the light has just begun to break,
before even the birds begin
to flap and stir and sing, with wings
well rested through the night,
the alarm calls out, an insistent voice
that pulls her up from sleep’s waters.

Like a fool cast upon the waters
she resists the moment that breaks
her communion with deeper voices.
With a stumble through darkened rooms, she begins
her upward journey towards another night.
Reluctantly, she fluffs her wings.

The day arrives on quick wings;
like a sunrise shimmering on lake waters,
their wind dispels the night,
quaking its web to break
open and spill the yolk of beginnings.
Revived, awake, it clears its voice.

With renewed vigor and voice
she rouses the child within her wing.
As the reveille trumpet, she proclaims, “Begin!
Time to tread through early waters,
time to make and break,
with the valiance of a knight!”

Morning lamps help chase away night’s
remains, while neighborhood voices
tune up on the street, breaking
into the song that lasts all day.  Wheels and wings
carry passengers to the flow of highway waters
and sky-high pathways, on their way to new beginnings.

Weary, bleary, so begins
the jolt away and back again to night.
Refreshing waters
wait in sinks; with tinkling voices
they strap on the heroic wings
that hit the gas when toes want to tap the brakes.

In the beginning, it was the Voice
that drew her from the night, donning wings
whose tips tapped the waters, as she drew on strength
to make another break.

This is the beginning of my daily project for Camp NaNoWriMo / National Poetry Month. More to come after the long weekend! Photos will be made with instant film; this one is Fuji Instax Wide.
