Peace

“Let us not be justices of the peace, but angels of peace.” — St. Therese of Lisieux

Today I am sharing photographs that represent a time of relative peace in our lives: camping road trips west. Sometimes that’s what it takes, complete removal from your usual surroundings, removal from cell signals, the internet, regular responsibilities, immersion in a different daily rhythm that deals only with the moment, to soak up the glory of this planet we live upon and the peace that can come from laying down the burdens we usually carry.

It’s the 4th, and last, Sunday of Advent: Peace. This time of year tends to be a whirlwind of activity; especially now, just a couple of days until Christmas (and also the beginning of Hanukkah! Happy Hanukkah, friends who are celebrating!) most households are whipped into a frenzy of preparation and parties. I wish all of you who are reading this at least some fleeting moments of peace in the days to come! With any luck, it will lodge in your heart and travel with you always.

I will also share this with you, to maybe plant a seed. “If you want to make peace, you don’t talk to your friends. You talk to your enemies.” — Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta. There is no comfort in this; it’s no easy thing to reach out to someone who has caused you pain, but it is possible. Peace begins with me, with you. Let it be here on earth, let it begin right now.

All photographs color negative film, mostly Kodak.
